Sage Edsall "Painting to Preserve" Art Exhibition

  • Plains Indians & Pioneers Museum 2009 Williams Ave. Woodward, OK 73801 (map)

Sage (Kinsey) Edsall’s interest in art started over 10 years before her time at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. After graduating summa cum laude in the spring of 2017 with her BFA from OPSU, she decided to further her education and pursue a MFA at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. During her time there, Sage worked as a graduate teaching assistant, assisting with the Painting and Drawing 1 & 2 classes. After finishing her thesis work, Sage graduated in December of 2019. She didn’t go far for work after graduation, staying on the campus of WT at the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum. Sage married her husband, Tim Edsall, in September of 2021, and they moved to Woodward, and then Yukon, where they now reside. Since their move to “the big city” Sage has been a part of several art shows in OKC, across the state, and into Texas and Colorado. She currently works as a full-time framer for Hobby Lobby.

Her current body of work reflects on the importance of preserving memories. When she is choosing a photo to use as a reference, Sage often looks for the ones buried deep in a dusty photo album, or lost in an online public domain. If she chooses a black and white photo, she creates a color palette which may, or may not be accurate to her original memory. Once she begins applying paint to her surface, her process is a symbolic reflection of the creation and storage of memories. Sage uses many, thin layers in her paintings- from the simulated texture in the background, to the shades of pink in the faces of her subjects, she builds layers of paint similar to how we build and store memories in our minds and in boxes in our closets.

Join us in welcoming Sage Edsall’s exhibition on the Roberson Art Gallery in July 2025 with an artist reception on Saturday July 5th, 2025 from 2-4pm.
